Please take your time to read this piece...
During a recent lunch in a Dutch NH hotel I came across an interesting piece of advice, which was offered to me as a wrap around my napkin, just before lunch was served.
It struck me immediately, as it is in 100% line with a book which I have read not too long ago (thanks for the tip Ronald!) .
"Slow" by Carl Honoré, deals with our society where speed seems to be the ultimate way forward to flash through our lives. The book offers worthwhile advice on how to walk your path at a more leisurly pace, enjoying every minute to the fullest without giving up on life's chances that you will meet on the way.
Quality of life has everything to do with being aware of the things that really matter. Observing colourful details in a beautiful landscape is much harder to do from a TGV than it is while walking "el Camino".
When you are about to have a business lunch, a message reading:
"Today's recommendation: Give yourself a treat. Eat slowly".
Should stop you right there and make you celebrate life, good food and the cook who made a real effort to help you realize how lucky you are to enjoy this meal in peace.
Try reading a book instead next time you feel the urge to check your business e-mail in the weekend.
You'll be surprised.
